John A. Jacob of Shorewood, Illinois, died October 19, 2023 at the age of 97. John was born on July 29, 1926 to Christian and Olga (Reich) Jacob in Brownwood, Texas, where he was raised and lived through high school. He moved to Chicago to attend Mortuary College, which led him to meet his wife Charlotte, who he married in 1949. His internship didn’t pay well enough to support family expenses so he took up Sales. His career in Sales moved him and his family quite a bit, from Lubbock, Texas to Dallas, then Toledo, Ohio, and ultimately to the Columbus, Ohio area where he lived for 40 plus years. After retiring from Sales, as an entrepreneur he had several food stands at the Ohio State Fair and managed concessions at the Ohio Theater in Columbus. He was also very active at his church, Gethsemane Lutheran Church, and in charity work at Faith Mission and SERTOMA in Columbus. After moving to Shorewood, Illinois in 2009 to be closer to family, he was active in Messiah Lutheran Church in Joliet, Illinois.
John is survived by his son Richard (Mary Alice); grandchildren Alison (Derek Radek), Nathan, Rosa and Maureen; great grandchildren Demi James and Reese Radek; and sister Hilda Boerger. He was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte of 45 years; daughter Sharon Warner; and siblings Bernard, Martin, Dora, Laura Ziehr and Estelle Shirley.
Visitation and memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 10:00 am at Messiah Lutheran Church in Joliet, Illinois.
Burial services will take place at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Kingwood Memorial Park in Delaware, Ohio.
