John A. Dragani, 64, passed away after a long illness on May 30, 2022 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Born in Columbus, Ohio in 1958, John spent most of his life in the Clintonville area before moving to Colorado in 2017.
John is preceded in death by his father and mother, James J. and Marion L. Dragani and his sister, Patricia Harding. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Nancy J. Dragani (Heeter), much loved children Megan and Matthew Dragani, brother Jim (Cheryl) Dragani of Groveport; sister Mary Rokos of Frederick, Maryland, brother-in-law Greg Harding, of Columbus, as well as many nieces and nephews.
John completed 16 years of service with the Army Reserves and Ohio National Guard, completing deployments to Germany, Korea, Nicaragua and Honduras. He was a self-taught intellectual who began a lifetime of learning at The Ohio State University. He was a gifted craftsman who was able to bring his vision and skills to multiple historic remodels in the Victorian and Italian Villages in Columbus as well as completely remodeling and adding additions to his own houses in the Clintonville area. John never stopped thinking about ways to improve his properties and had multiple projects underway at his home in Wheat Ridge.
He had a passion for air-cooled Volkswagens, over the years owning multiple VW Bugs, Vans and Things. He gave generously of his time and money to those less fortunate and cared deeply about all animals. John was rarely without animal treats in his coat pockets and cherished the cats and dogs that shared his world, most recently his cat Nibbles and dogs Angus, Bailey and Megan’s dog, Benny. John was a renaissance man who could intelligently discuss physics, computer science, world politics, cars and the entirety of the Peter Jackson Lord of The Rings series. John was also a talented singer and guitarist, and performed on stage several times around Columbus as a young man.
With such an eclectic personality and an all-embracing lifestyle, there is no single memory with which to describe him; only a feeling of sincere comfort, strength, and acceptance, accompanied by the knowledge that he would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.
John’s family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON 6699 N. High Street followed by a 3:00 p.m. memorial service celebrating John’s life. John would encourage people wishing to make a donation to consider giving to those who are struggling and are in need of a helping hand.
