Joe B. Melton, 94, of Worthington, passed away on March 19, 2024. He was born in Gallipolis to the late James and Frances Melton. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother Jim and his sister Dorotha.
Joe was a charter member and faithfully served the Lord through Calvary Bible Baptist/CrossPointe from the very first worship service of the church. Joe served in various capacities and took pride in caring for the building and grounds for many years. Perhaps his greatest joy in ministry was leading an annual mission trip to Nova Scotia to prepare Forrest Glenn Youth Camp for the summer season.
Joe was also an avid HAM radio operator. He got his license in 1950 and made numerous friends over the years. His call sign W8FPH is known to many. Joe like to call himself an Appalachian American and he was very proud of his heritage.
On June 13, 1948 Joe married the love of his life, Justine. They have one son, Michael, of Westerville. He will also be missed by his brother Tom Melton, sister Anne Romaine, and sister-in-law Marilene Settle
Joe and Justine were married for nearly 76 years. Joe’s faithfulness to the Lord, his wife, and the church is a model for each of us to follow. To put it plainly, if Joe was in town you could find he and Justine every Sunday sitting in the first two seats of the second row on the right. Joe will be greatly missed but we find comfort in the fact that his failing body is now at rest while he is rejoicing in the presence of the Lord. Joe’s faith has become sight and he is with his Savior!
The family will receive friends for 5-7pm on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Schoedinger Worthington, and one hour prior to the service celebrating Joe’s life will at 11:00am Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at CrossPointe Church. Burial will take place at Centenary Cemetery in Gallipolis.
