Helen Marie Nugent, 82, of Galena, Ohio passed away on September 25, 2024, in Columbus, Ohio. She was born to Lawrence Nagy and Helen Milhalko Nagy in Cleveland, Ohio on July 14, 1942. She was a cherished daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and friend.
Helen is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Jim. She is also survived by son Jim (Judy), son David, daughter Elizabeth Maas (Doug), and daughter Laura Mohr (Rick), her grandchildren Eleanor and Margaret Nugent, Adam, Catherine, Rachel, and Jonathan Maas, Jessica, Jacob, and Jason Mohr, and brothers Lawrence (Marguerite) Nagy, Brother Mario Nagy, O.F.M., and Joseph Nagy, and brother-in-law Dan Nugent (Robin).
Helen attended Trinity High School in Garfield Heights, Ohio, before attending Kent State University, where she earned a degree in Early Childhood Education in 1964. Upon graduation, and following the birth of her four children, Helen taught in the Groveport Madison School District for 27 years, with most of those years as a respected kindergarten teacher.
Helen’s true passions were her vocations to motherhood and to her Catholic faith. A true humble servant, Helen selflessly devoted herself to her family and her faith, while never asking for anything in return. She consistently and humbly served their needs before her own, and was an active member in several Catholic churches in central Ohio.
Helen also enjoyed summer vacations while raising her family, learning through travel with husband Jim to Italy, Ireland, France, the United Kingdom, Austria, and her family homeland of Hungary and Czechoslovakia. She enjoyed sailing in the Caribbean with her son David, hosting family and friends, being a member of book clubs and water aerobics, and honoring her heritage through her wonderful Hungarian cooking.
