Glenda grew up in Carey, Ohio, and graduated as valedictorian from Carey High School in 1952. Glenda attended Bowling Green State University for one year on a full ride scholarship before returning home to support her family. She married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Ron, on September 29, 1957. They first moved to Staten Island, NY, for 2 years while Ron served in the U.S. Army. Glenda enjoyed taking the ferry into N.Y.C. to work. They then moved to Columbus, where Glenda worked as a bookkeeper for Nationwide Insurance. When her daughters were born, Glenda chose to be a stay-at-home mom, immersing herself in her growing family. An enthusiastic volunteer, Glenda was a founding member of TWIG 6, a women’s group supporting Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She cherished many lasting friendships formed through TWIG 6, her bridge group, her women’s investment group, and the OAFP Auxiliary. Glenda was also an active member of All Saints Lutheran Church for many years. Glenda enjoyed cheering on the Buckeyes with Ron and family at OSU football and basketball games. She loved hosting extended family gatherings for any occasion and her grandchildren eagerly anticipated visits to Grandma’s house. In quieter times, she enjoyed quilting, baking, playing piano, reading, and crossword puzzles. Glenda and Ron treasured spending time with family and attending their grandchildren’s many activities.
Glenda will be dearly missed by her three daughters and sons-in-law Christina (Stephen) Knapp, Cynthia (Jeff) Christoff, and Susan (Matt) Eakin; grandchildren Gregory, Ronald, and Melissa Knapp, Kobe, Tyler, and Aleeya Christoff, and Megan and Natalie Eakin; as well as several nieces and nephews. Glenda is preceded in death by her best friend and loving husband of 66 years, Ronald C. Van Buren, M.D., her parents, and her sister Phyllis (Snyder) Sipes.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 11, 2024, from 10:00am until the service begins at 12:00pm at All Saints Lutheran Church, 6770 North High Street in Worthington, Ohio. Family and friends are invited to share a light luncheon celebrating Glenda’s life immediately following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made in Glenda’s name to All Saints Lutheran Church or to Nationwide Children’s Hospital (in memory of Glenda Van Buren, TWIG 6).
