Gary Smith, 76, of Westerville, passed away on February 6, 2025. He was born on May 21, 1948, to the late Joseph and Marjorie (King) Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Todd Smith.
Gary attended Christ the King and Aquinas, before graduating from Brookhaven High School (Class of ‘67). After graduation Gary proudly served in the US Army, including active duty in Vietnam. As Gary’s military service concluded and he transitioned into the workforce, he fulfilled his passion for aviation by working in the industry before ultimately finding his career path at General Electric Superabrasives. In his 35 years at GE, he was most proud of the relationships he formed with his colleagues, opening the facility in Ireland, and his multiple patents. Upon retirement, Gary was able to enjoy more time with his family doing the things he loved most which includes traveling around the world with his wife Donna, attending his grandson’s sporting events, and being everyone’s “Mr. Fix-it”. Gary loved watching sports (Cleveland Indians, New York Jets, and The Ohio State Buckeyes), attending air shows, being active in his VFW post, delivering food for St. Vincent DePaul, and was known to never turn down the opportunity for a good debate.
Gary will be greatly missed by his wife, Donna; children, Sean (April) Smith, Megan (Daryl) Malachowski, and Kyle (Stephanie) Smith; grandchildren, Drew and Devin Smith and Beckham and Pace Smith; two four legged friends, Lola Rose and Dante; and numerous extended family and close friends. Gary was the pillar of the family, and nothing made him smile more than making memories with family and friends.
A visitation for Gary will be held Thursday, February 13, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Schoedinger Worthington, 6699 N High Street, Worthington, OH 43085. A funeral mass will occur Friday, February 14, 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 313 N State St, Westerville, OH 43082.
