Gail, born on April 25th, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan, was truly one of Motown's greatest hits. With a one-of-a-kind smile that beamed with unmatched warmth, an infectious giggle and a manner as gentle and sweet as they come, Gail's kindness, creativity and generous spirit knew no bounds.
Gail has always cherished the closeness of her family. Her siblings, children, Grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews were always a source of tremendous joy for her. Whether it was a much anticipated family vacation to Traverse City or Northport, Michigan, or countless trips to Detroit, Chicago, Columbus or Cincinnati, she treasured each and every moment she had with her family. And, no matter the destination or occasion, she always arrived with a very bespoke gift...something that she undoubtedly found months prior during a shopping excursion that struck her as something that someone in her family would absolutely love...and surely "needed".
The way that she approached shopping, and make no mistake, she was a hall of fame level shopper, was an act of love. Yes, of course, she always enjoyed a good deal (and, of course, had a bundle of coupons at the ready), but what moved her more than a deal was seeing a store thru the lens of the people she loved and finding that special something that they would treasure.
She also found her way into the hearts of those that knew and loved her thru their tastebuds. Her cooking, was the epitome of comfort food. Simple epicurean gestures like bacon wrapped water chestnuts, spinach balls and manicotti were some of her greatest hits that'll be comforting us for generations to come.
For over 58 years she and her "cutie" husband Phil have been exchanging love notes or Hallmark cards and every single one of them has been addressed "to my best friend". Their friendship, which began at Ferris State University, was the binding to what became one of the most beautiful and inspiring love stories that's ever been written. It's a love story for the ages. In true Motor City fashion, so many of their adventures found them on the road in search of a soon-to-be favorite restaurant in Michigan or to one of their grandchildren's sporting events. As is true in all great love stories, there were also moments later in life when they found themselves on some unmapped roads that were full of difficult twists and turns. But, even in the darkest of those hours, their unconditional love for one another still managed to light the way in a manner that will continue to inspire us all.
To say that we are going to miss her terribly is an understatement, but we will forever find comfort knowing that she'll be always smiling upon us.
