Doris was born in Queens, New York on August 1, 1927 to the late Walter and Angelina (Keating) Siefert. She was the devoted wife of Louis F. Gruebel for 55 years. Together, they raised 5 children and several foster children. While providing for her family, she helped her husband run a successful contracting business. Her cooking skills were inspirations for her sons Robert and Richard. She introduced flavors beyond meat and potatoes such as Chinese and Indian, using recipes as suggestions, relying on her uncanny sense of taste. Doris had an operatic singing voice, often singing solos with her church choirs. She is fondly remembered at The Inn for often singing our National Anthem and God Bless America. Both Doris and Louis were active members of the Circleville Presbyterian Church.
She is predeceased by her husband Louis, brothers Walter, Robert, George and Richard, and sisters Marjorie Lind and Janet Lupardo. She is survived by her sons Robert (Lisa) and Richard (Gwen); grandchildren Rhys (Kathryn), Ross, Ryan, Karl (Amanda), Heather (TJ) Ledbetter; great-grandchildren Logan, Caden, Teya, Sean, Edward, Joshua; sisters-in-law Nancy Siefert and Arlene Siefert; cousin Joseph Scalia; numerous nieces and nephews, and several foster children.
Her ashes will be interred in the Memory Garden of the Circleville Presbyterian Church beside those of her husband. An announcement of a celebration of life will be forthcoming. The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Circleville Presbyterian Church.
The Gruebel family would like to thank the staff of The Inn at Olentangy Trail and the staff of Capital City Hospice for their loving care. We would also like to thank her church family for their thoughts and prayers frequently expressed in birthday and holiday cards. Lastly, we would like to thank the staff of Schoedinger Funeral & Cremation Service.
