Donald “Don” B. Medley, 79, of Columbus, passed away on April 7, 2024. He was born on August 10, 1944, in Columbus, to the late Herman Medley and Barbara Schwinne Ucker. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by step-parents, Doris Medley and Richard Ucker; brother, Roger Medley.
Don was married to Ardis Martin on April 23, 1966. Don will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Ardis Martin Medley; children, Patricia (David) Baer, Cheryl (Mark) Johnson, Bryan (Jill) Medley, and Eric (Tamara) Medley; grandchildren, Tasha, Devin, Heath, Noelle, Andrew, Cameron, Marshall, and Macy; siblings, Barbara, Richard, Michael, Gary, Larry, and Susan; and numerous extended family and close family friends.
Don graduated from Holy Family High School in Columbus in 1962. Following High School, Don attended The Ohio State University. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army where he served in the Support Company, 2nd Battalion, 11th Special Forces Group Airborne U.S. Army Reserve. After an extensive career with the United States Postal Service, Don retired as the Postmaster of New Albany.
Outside of his professional career, Don was a very active person when it came to volunteering. He volunteered at many Columbus Roadrunner events and he was recognized for over 20 years of volunteer work at the Columbus Marathon finish line. Among his many interests, he was an avid runner, distance biker (including the Tour of the Scioto River Valley), and recreational soccer where he not only coached youth soccer but played in an adult league. He also enjoyed scuba diving where he got to experience diving in the Florida Keys, Bonne Terre, and multiple quarries throughout Ohio. Above everything, Don loved to spend time with his friends, family, and most importantly his grandchildren.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024, from 2pm until 5pm, at the Schoedinger Worthington Funeral Home, 6699 North High St., Worthington OH, 43085. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 11am, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 6077 Sharon Woods Blvd., Columbus OH, 43229. Interment will take place at a later date at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Attica Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Don’s name may be made to Capital City Hospice or a charity of your choice.
