Christina Ann Staccia, of Columbus, passed away on June 3, 2022. Christina was born on May 21, 1959 to her parents Donald Staccia, Sr. and Joyce (Banion) Staccia in Yigo, Guam during her mother’s trip there to Anderson Air Force Base. She had a Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation from The Ohio State University and worked for the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation as a counselor from the mid 80’s to the mid 90’s. She was the founder and owner of A2Z Cares from 1999 until her retirement in 2022.
Because of her reputable and visionary work as a Certified Counselor, Christina has been recognized by the National Rehabilitation Counseling Association, the Joslin Diabetes Center and as the Entrepreneur of the Year by the School of the Blind in Columbus, Ohio. Along with her work, Christina wrote a book entitled “Diabetes Living” and created her “WellBee.”
Christina LOVED Ohio State Football, her pets, traveling, and reading (having read almost 100 books in the last year). She enjoyed her chocolate martinis, using phrases like “you gotta ask yourself,” and her sentences often contained her favorite words “nebulous” and especially “discern”. She also loved spending time with her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was a beloved wife, caring sister, loving and cherished sister-in-law, as well as a loving, generous Aunt and Great Aunt. Within these roles she was a strong, dynamic family leader. Christina did not know the meaning of the word “can’t”. In spite of all of the trials and tribulations and ups and downs associated with being a diabetic from birth, she always had a stoic attitude; looking forward with a positive outlook on life. She will be greatly missed because of this “can do” attitude as well as her kindness and infectious laugh.
Christina is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 29 years, David Hammer. She is survived by her siblings Donald and Robin Staccia, Angela Beams, and Greg and Zoe Staccia; nieces and nephews Kendra (Ken) Mills, Nicole (Mike) Adams, Lexi Staccia, Ryan (Madison) Albright, Cassidy Beams, Katie Staccia, and Greg (Bailey) Staccia, Jr.; 8 great nephews and nieces; along with her Uncle Roger Banion and cousins. She will also be missed by her canine friend, Charlie.
Christina’s family would like to thank all of the medical professionals who helped her along the way; most especially Dr. Samuel Cataland, who cared for her for over 40 years; Dr. Julie Hundley; as well as OSU doctors and staff and Ohio Health doctors and staff, especially within the ICU. Special loving thanks for the love, companionship, and around the clock care given by her sister-in-law, Robin Staccia.
Christina’s family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON 6699 N. High Street prior to an 11:30 a.m. memorial service celebrating Christina’s life. Contributions in Christina’s memory may be made to Central Ohio Diabetes Association.
