Adarsh Kumar Bhandari, 79, of Columbus, passed away on March 21, 2023. Adarsh was born December 15, 1943 in New Delhi, India to his parents Jialal and Vidya, who preceded him in death. He was raised and attended school in India. In 1969 he was married to Martha Singh and in 1973 they moved to the United States where they raised their family.
Adarsh worked for the State of Ohio in the bureau of liquor control. He also opened up the first Indian restaurant in Columbus called the Taj Mahal restaurant with family in 1984. Later he opened the Tandoori Chicken with additional restaurants in the Lane Avenue Shopping Center. After that he opened the Tandoori Chicken locations on Bethel Road and in downtown Columbus along with operating other innovative food and business ventures. He was featured in various local magazines for his growing businesses and community connections. Along with his constant work with his businesses, Adarsh was also an avid photographer and videographer who always had the newest and latest cameras, gadgets and photography tools.
He was known as a charming marketer and salesman with a great sense of humor who lived life to the fullest. He was the life of the party and made friends with everyone. He enjoyed the finer things in life, while also being a generous man who helped everyone that he could.
Adarsh converted from Hinduism to Christianity and had attended the High Street Baptist Church. To the end of his life, he was a strong believer in Christ and was an example of Christian living and charity.
Adarsh is survived by and will be greatly missed by his loving wife Martha, sons Deepak Kumar Bhandari and Pradeep Kumar Bhandari (Angela), grandsons Eli and Jacob, sister Asha Kumar, and extended family and friends.
Family will receive visitors from 9am to 10am on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Schoedinger Funeral Service Worthington, 6699 N. High Street prior to a 10am Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Columbus.
