Tommy David Burch, 74, of Cleveland, Georgia, passed away on December 30, 2024, in the arms of his wife and his 3 children, after fighting a brave battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born in Marietta, Georgia, to Rosa Lee and James H. Burch.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1970. He completed his basic training at Ft. Benning, Georgia, and was deployed to Vietnam. While there, he earned a Bronze Star Medal with Valor Device, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Air Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge (st award), Army Commendation Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Expert (Rifle M-14) (Rifle M-16), 2 Overseas Service Bars, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device, and Presidential citation from President Nixon. He proudly served with dignity and honor. He was a true patriot.
After his tour as a sniper in Vietnam, Tommy became an avid gun owner and always welcomed the opportunity to share his experiences and passion. Tommy loved camping with his wife and dogs and just hanging out with them. He loved to write and kept legal pads, journals, and his Bible filled with stories, notes, and poems. Tommy loved living on "the hill" and knew this was a temporary stop on his journey to eternal life in God's Kingdom of Heaven. He loved his kids and their many conversations, his yo-yo collection, his trucks and tinkering on his land with his tractor and riding mower and his big, red barn. Tommy loved his dear friends, Jonathan and Samantha Underwood and he deeply loved and missed his best friend, Everett.
He is survived by his wife, Terry; his children, Melanee Burch, Bobby Burch, and Ashley Tillett (Kristie); grandchildren, Kellee, Jake, Jadyn, Emma, Grandin, and Elena June; great-grandchildren; his brother, Murl Burch (Kathy); his Great Danes, Merlie, Lily, and Dottie; and his ex-wife and friend, June Ragle. He was preceded in death by his parents, James H. Burch and Rosa Lee Burch; and by his baby brother, Thomas. He was a member of Carmel Baptist Church for many years.
Visitation for Tommy will be held Friday, January 24, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Woodstock Funeral Home, 8855 Main Street, Woodstock, GA 30188. The funeral service will be Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Carmel Baptist Church, 2001 Bascomb Carmel Rd, Woodstock, GA 30189. If you wish to be in the funeral procession from the funeral home to the Church, via Dupree Road, please join us at Woodstock Funeral Home at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 25th. Interment will be Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 3:30 pm at Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery, 2001 Bascomb Carmel Rd, Woodstock, GA 30189.
