Theresa Jacqueline Chandler (née Ray), a devoted mother, compassionate psychologist, and advocate for equality, passed away on May 19, 2023, at the age of 84. Born on October 7, 1938, Theresa made a lasting impact on the lives of many.
After earning a bachelor’s degree from GA State University and a Master’s degree from West Georgia College, Theresa's professional journey led her to become a psychologist, where she fearlessly confronted the challenges of the state's most difficult cases. Her expertise and empathy provided solace to those in need, leaving an indelible mark on the mental health community. As the family business, SIC Technologies, grew Theresa transitioned to working as the Human Resources Director there until her retirement.
Beyond her professional achievements, Theresa was a passionate advocate for social and political equality. During the transformative years of the 1960s and 1970s, she actively participated in movements that fought for justice and equal rights for all.
Theresa's adventurous spirit extended to her personal life, as she found joy in the exhilaration of running. A dedicated athlete, she coached track, ran many road races, and completed several marathons, pushing her physical limits and inspiring others to embrace an active lifestyle.
Family was of paramount importance to Theresa. As a proud grandmother of seven and great grandmother of five, she cherished the time spent with her loved ones, creating lasting memories and sharing her humor, compassion, generosity, and wisdom.
Theresa is survived by her devoted husband, Wayne Chandler and her two children, Robert Allen and Lorraine Allen Rose. She is also survived by her seven beloved grandchildren, Michael Rose, Joey Rose, Alex (Allen) Motes, Christopher Allen, Stephanie Allen, Samantha Allen, and Ashton Jesse Rose as well as five much-adored great-grandchildren, Aiden, Christian, James, Hendrix, and Jade.
Theresa will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to the well-being of others, her advocacy for equality, her immense generosity, and her zest for life. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who knew her and she will be deeply missed.
