Mrs. Teresa Hamilton Potter, age 90, of Acworth, GA, passed away peacefully and went to be with Jesus on May 17, 2017. Teresa was born on July 17, 1926 in Boston, MA. She was adopted at the age of 2 years old by her loving parents, Marion and Alfred Hamilton of Bangor, Maine, where she grew up and met the love of her life, Laurence Frederick Potter. They were married for over 55 years before his passing in 2006. They moved to South Florida in 1955.
Before she retired, Teresa was a head secretary/bookkeeper for the Palm Beach County, Florida school system at Palm Springs Elementary School. For most of the last 14 years she lived with her daughter and son-in-law in her basement apartment affectionately known as the "Old Bat Cave".
Teresa was a member of the Royal Palm Chorus of Sweet Adeline's for many years. There was seldom a time She wasn't heard singing her old time favorites regardless of the circumstance of life. She loved lighthouses, crossword puzzles, oil painting "the Bob Ross way" and her kitty.
Teresa was known as "Mimi" to her grandchildren and all of their friends, as well as neighbors. The three grandchildren experienced the blessing of getting to know their grandparents during many of their formative years. Mimi had a fondness for playing cards and board games with her grandchildren; she had a strong sense of fairness, and always insisted that the children play and win or lose "fair and square".
Teresa's love for her family and friends was evident in every area of her life. She was outgoing and friendly, and made everyone she met feel like family and that they were truly her favorite. She never said "goodbye", but insisted there was no such thing, only "see you later"' Every conversation was ended with "Toodle-loo!"
Teresa is survived by her daughter, Molly Buwalda, son-in-law Ken Buwalda, grandchildren, Joshua (Stephanie) Buwalda, Josiah Buwalda and Emily Buwalda, great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Jubilee and Marigold and many loving relatives and friends.
