Ronald Glen “Ron” Rickard of Woodstock, Georgia, died Thursday, December 16, 2021, at the age of 78. He was born in Washington D.C. on November 6, 1943, to the late Robert Glenn Rickard and Lillian Marguerite Holdaway Rickard. Ron lived in Maryland, New York, and Virginia during his early years, but he moved to Florida at age ten and called Fort Lauderdale home.
Ron graduated from Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and attended college at Broward Junior College, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and Florida Southern University. He served eight years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era. Ron loved his country and its history, and he proudly wore his patriotic hats to honor the United States and its veterans. He was a member of the American Legion for many years.
After leaving the military, Ron worked in the transportation industry. He was employed by Custom Carriers, LTD for twenty-four years and was designated at a Certified Transportation Professional (CTP) by the National Private Truck Council. He later worked as a transportation manager at American Woodmark and as a safety consultant for LMSC, Inc.
Ron was married to Jeannine Fisher Rickard for 53 years, and their lives centered around the activities of their children and granddaughters. His greatest joy came from watching his kids dance, and he was an avid supporter of the clogging community for the past forty years.
Ron was preceded in death by his younger brother, Robert Walter “Bob” Rickard (Pam) of Gahanna, OH. In addition to his wife, Jeannine, he is survived by his son, Ryan James Rickard (Marci) of Woodstock, GA; his daughter, Jana Leigh Rickard of Canton, GA; his two granddaughters, Kaitlyn Riley Rickard and Morgan Bailey Rickard of Woodstock, GA; a sister, Rita Marie Rickard Fortune of Navarre, FL; a half-brother, Paul Dennis Shulman of Muskego, WI; three nieces, and a nephew.
A memorial service to celebrate Ron’s life will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Ronald G. Rickard can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Georgia Chapter, 41 Perimeter Center East Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346.
