Richard Sherrick Childs, Jr. left this life on January 6, 2011. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee on September 5, 1954. His life was a remarkable journey where he accumulated loving friends and devoted family members. He received a Bachelors Degree in Business from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity where he found life long brothers. He became a CPA and moved to the Atlanta area where he continued to reside. His sense of humor and zest for life were always an inspiration for everyone’s life he touched. His relationship with God, and his individual and extended family were always the center of his life. Rick is survived by his two daughters, Shelby and Amy, the joy and light of his life, who reside in Marietta, Georgia. He is also survived by his twin sister, Terri Childs, his brother, Jim Childs, and his parents Dick and Lea Childs, of Knoxville, TN. There are not enough words for the family to express their gratitude to his church family and Rick’s devoted friends who gave him countless hours and unlimited love, which provided the highest quality of life possible. Honorary pallbearers: his Sigma Nu brothers Mike Craig, Scott Dickson ,Jim Drake, Bob Harter, Jim Hinson, Nelson Hurst, Clint Reeves, Tyler Smith, Jimmy Thomas, Bill Weidemyer, Roger S. Weigel, Bruce Wiley, and his loyal friends Steve Hoge, Keith McLaughlin, Vickie Moore, and Emerson Russell. A service to celebrate Rick’s life will take place at Mountain View United Methodist Church, 2300 Jamerson Rd. , Marietta, GA on Saturday, January 15th at 11:00 AM with Reverend William Burch officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception following the service at the church. Memorial gifts may be given to: The American Cancer Society of North Georgia or to Mountain View United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Woodstock Funeral Home.
