December 8, 2016. Nicholas was born in Albany, New York, to Nick and Mary
DiPiazza on March 8, 1936. He married Connie Gaetino
in 1962 and spent 54 loving years together. He received his undergraduate
and master's degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. This led to his
career as a geophysicist and later department Head of the Geology &
Geophysics Branch for the Naval Oceanographic Office in Washington, DC and
Bay St. Louis, MS. Nicholas dedicated a portion of his career mapping the
ocean and its topography. He spent a lot of time on naval research planes
and vessels traveling all over the world. Nicholas spoke Italian and
Russian and his hobbies included softball, stamp collecting, and he
thoroughly loved fishing in the Gulf of Mexico while residing in Louisiana.
After relocating to Atlanta, he participated in a mens cooking club, Les
Marmitons, was an active member of the Italian Genealogy Club, and St.
Michael's Catholic Church of Woodstock. Above all his accomplishments,
Nicholas deeply loved his family and cherished family gatherings.
Nicholas is survived by his bride, Connie DiPiazza of Woodstock, GA; son
Nicholas (Rachael) DiPiazza of Buford, GA, daughters Jeanette (Ross)
Feldman of Alexandria, VA, Lisa (Dominick) DiSanza of Marietta, GA and
Audrey (Charles) Fincher of Peachtree City, GA; grandchildren Laura and Lee
Fincher; Joseph, Amanda, and Nicole Feldman; Nicholas and Kaitlyn DiPiazza;
Brandon, Gabrielle and Dominick DiSanza; beloved sister-in-law Joyce Martin
of Columbus, OH; brother-in-law Joseph (Carol) Gaetino of Villages, FL; and
his lifelong friends Angello Kontis, Peter Rudar and James Reil. He is
preceded in death by his parents Nick and Mary DiPiazza and his sister,
Annette DiPiazza.
A private service will be held at St. Agnes Cemetery in Albany, NY in early
January.
