Mary Ann Ryniec Szostak, 83, of Woodstock died peacefully at home on January 3, 2024 after a lengthy illness. A native of Buffalo, NY, she had been a resident of Woodstock since 1990. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Anthony Szostak, son Joe Szostak of Spencerport, NY and daughter Anne Brigito (Ted) of Woodstock. She is also survived by many caring and loving family members.
Her passion was gardening, whether at home or throughout the community. She always enjoyed rummaging through local nurseries for that special plant. She dedicated many hours to gardening and landscaping projects throughout Woodstock, including the Canton Senior Center. A member of Cherokee County Master Gardeners, she always had time to talk gardening. Known for her gregarious and outgoing personality, she also displayed a sharp wit and could quickly get to the point.
Mary Ann was a member of Transfiguration Catholic Church in Marietta and was an active member of various church activities over the years, including Women in Faith. She was proud of her Polish heritage and loved to introduce anyone to the blessings her upbringing provided. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to American Lung Association (lung.org) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Stjude.org)
