John was born to the late Chester and Estelle Thrash on October 2, 1938 in Mississippi. He was one of three sons and left his home state as a teenager to work in the Texas oil fields until ultimately settling in Georgia.
John built a wonderful life with his wife of 42 years, Frances Ballew Thrash. The couple had two children, Connie and Tony, and their family grew to include 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
John had an outgoing personality and had a great sense of humor. His selflessness complimented his ability to make friends with everyone. John’s life was centered around his family. In addition, he found joy in vintage cars, woodworking and working in the yard. He had a lifelong career as a truck driver until retiring in 2006.
John Vinson Thrash is preceded in death by his parents, Chester Leo Thrash and Estelle McGinnis Thrash; brothers, Jimmy Thrash and Tip Thrash; and beloved wife, Frances Ballew Thrash.
John’s memory will be cherished by his children, Connie Layson and her husband, Greg Wilson, and Tony Thrash and his wife, Renee Thrash; grandchildren, Johnathan, Samantha, Courtney, Matthew and John-Michael; great-grandchildren, Julia, Lincoln, Willow, Sunny, Jane and Jenna; and other extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 from 11:00AM until 12:00PM at Woodstock Funeral Home. Services will be held in the Reece Memorial Chapel at noon with Dr. Daryel O’Barr officiating. Committal Services will follow at College Park Cemetery where John will be laid to rest.
