She married John E Haffner on July 1, 1949. Joan held various career positions over the years, retiring April 30, 1983. Aside from the many organizations she belonged to while enjoying her retirement, she also filled her spare time working part-time at Amy’s Card shop in Winter Haven, Florida which was a good fit as she enjoyed sending and receiving greeting cards on all occasions. Joan was known for her witty personality and “being right 75% of the time”. Anyone who knows Joan knows her favorite singer was Frank Sinatra, his song “My Way” per Joan defines her life.
Joan met and married her 2nd husband James H Briggs in 1987. They loved to travel, both to international destinations, as well as traveling stateside in their motorcoach finding adventure wherever they went. She was very active and enjoyed her church families and volunteering at Asbury United Methodist in Toledo, Ohio and St John’s United Methodist in Winter Haven, Florida. Being from Ohio she was an avid Ohio State fan – Go Buckeyes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband James Briggs; brother Kenneth (Margi) Abel; step-brother Howard (Mary Jane) Abel.
She is survived by son, Nelson (Peggy) Haffner; daughters Dianne (Jim) Zumbrunn and Sandra (Jerry) Drew and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Friends may attend the Celebration of Life service at Wesley Chapel UMC 4495 Sandy Plains Rd, Marietta, Georgia Sunday March 26th at 3:00 p.m. In keeping with Joan’s wishes, in lieu of flowers the family suggests a memorial donation to Golden Rule Hospice (in memo add Joan’s name), 4080 McGinnis Ferry Road, Alpharetta, Georgia 30005.
