Born November 23, 1938 in Webster County, GA to Cecil Slocumb and Era (Johnston) Slocumb, he married the love of his life, Martha (Spence) Slocumb, on October 13, 1962. Don is preceded in death by his wife Martha (Mimi); his parents, Cecil and Era; his sister, Darlene Perry. He is survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Keith and Jenny Slocumb of Roswell, Georgia; 3 grandchildren, Abby (Justin) Myles, Madeleine Slocumb, and Delaney Slocumb, and two great grandsons, Nolan and Dean Myles. He also leaves behind his sister, Peggy Slocumb. Mimi and Pawpaw met in the summer of 1962, wed that fall, and resided in Dawson, Georgia for 45 years before moving to Woodstock in 2007 to be near their son and granddaughters. Pawpaw spent many years coaching youth baseball and football. After his coaching years he officiated baseball, football, and basketball games. He loved working in his yard taking care of the many daylilies he had accumulated over the years. He was also a great baker, known for his delicious cakes and pies. He loved traveling with Mimi. Pigeon Forge and the beach were two of the places he enjoyed the most. His favorite pastime was doting on his granddaughters and cheering for the Braves and Bulldogs.
Pawpaw was a US Navy Veteran, serving four years from 1958 -1962. He was a member of the Woodstock Church of Christ. He had resided the last 4 ½ years at Brickmont Woodstock Assisted Living, where he had the title of Ambassador, welcoming all new residents. Pawpaw never met a stranger and when you did sit down to talk with him, you had better get ready to listen to some great stories. The Funeral will be held at Woodstock Funeral Home in Woodstock, Georgia on Tuesday, January the 30th. Visitation will be at 10:00 with the service to follow 11:00. Burial will be at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia on Wednesday, January 31st at 10:00.
