Harry Joe Hames

Joe was a good man, son, brother and friend. He never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to everyone he came across. In 1969 he graduated from Cherokee High School. After high school, he had several different jobs that peaked his interest. He started off at Everett Seed Company working with his father. Joe then moved into law enforcement and eventually became Chief of Police in Woodstock, Georgia. Joe then spent twenty years with Scott Exterminating Company. For the last several years Joe has worked in medical transportation, most recently at Choice Transportation.

Joe’s favorite hobby was golf, which he enjoyed playing with many friends as often as he could. He enjoyed good food and dinners with friends at restaurants throughout Georgia. He especially liked bar-be-que. Joe was an old movie buff and an ardent fan of TCM. Joe loved to make people laugh. His sense of humor was immeasurable. He was always telling jokes, even if he was the only one laughing at them. Joe always wanted to see a smile on everyone’s face.

Joe is survived by his brother, Eddie Hames; sister, Dianne Holcomb; close cousin, Bennett (Paula) Bryant; nieces, Sara (Bud) Whitley and Nicole (Corey) Knock; nephew, Mason Hames, and many other wonderful family and friends.

A funeral service to honor Joe will be held at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Woodstock Funeral Home. Family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home on Friday, March 16, 2018 from five o’clock to eight o’clock in the evening. Following the funeral service, he will be laid to rest in the Little River United Methodist Cemetery.
