Eric Renz, 70, of Woodstock, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2025, at Marietta Center for Nursing, where he was receiving rehabilitation care following a Parkinson’s disease-related fall. Born on December 31, 1954, in Springfield, Missouri, to John Otto Renz and Shirley Rae Renz, Eric grew up in Fairfax, Virginia, alongside his three siblings.
A natural athlete with a passion for sports, Eric excelled in everything he pursued. During high school, he joined the marching band, playing the trombone—a love of music that endured into adulthood as he performed with his church orchestra. In February 1974, Eric enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving his country during the Vietnam War era as an Air Traffic Controller, following in the footsteps of his father’s aviation industry career. After sustaining an injury, he was honorably discharged at the rank of Airman First Class (A1C).
Following his military service, Eric ventured to California, embracing what he fondly called his “vagabond” years. There, he explored diverse passions, from competitive diving to performing in musical theater productions, reflecting his zest for life. An outgoing and charismatic individual, Eric eventually found his professional calling in sales, achieving immediate success in medical sales. This career path led him to Atlanta in the early 1980s, bringing him closer to his parents in Greenville, South Carolina.
In Atlanta, Eric met Tammie Lemons, whom he married and with whom he raised two children, Kyle and Kayla, in Woodstock, Georgia. Later, he transitioned into residential real estate sales, a field that became the cornerstone of his professional life until retirement.
In his 40s, Eric embraced his faith, accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He devoted himself wholeheartedly to studying the Bible and sharing the gospel with everyone he encountered, making his relationship with God his highest priority.
Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2016 after experiencing difficulties with writing and typing, Eric maintained his independence for many years. In the final six months of his life, he received dedicated care and support.
Eric is survived by his children, Kyle Renz and Kayla Renz; his grandchildren, Moriah, Eliza, Nora, Phineas, Hudson, Sullivan, and Zao; his brother, Kurt Renz; his sisters, Katie Dillard and Lynda Woods; his wife, Brenda Renz; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Otto Renz and Shirley Rae Renz.
Eric will be fondly remembered for the exuberance and vitality he brought to every facet of life. Known as the life of the party, he was hardworking, approachable, and ever-ready to lend a hand. Above all, he was a devoted father, always present for his children in every way he could be.
