Libby was born on April 18, 1944 to Reverend James Borders and Mildred Morrison Borders of Louisville, KY. After graduating high school, she attended Blue Mountain College where she studied interior design. In 1974, while working for Sherwin Williams as an interior designer, she met and married the love of her life, Larry “Pops” Yager. They later opened their own store, Wallpaper Distributors, in 1983 where they served the Midfield and Birmingham area until Larry’s passing in 2011. She devoted all her time and energy in meeting the needs of her family, working late evenings creating beautifully painted wooden figurines and other craft items to sell to support her sons’ college educations. For 25 years, she worked actively in her church as the director of “The Santa Shoppe” providing Christmas for families in need. Thousands of Birmingham families have been helped through this ministry. Where there was a need, Libby always volunteered to help, making stockings for inner city children, putting together care packages for migrant worker families and organizing shoe box drives for “Operation Christmas Child.” In her free time, she enjoyed working in her flower garden and playing with her grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of faith and following Christ, sharing his love with all she met.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Larry Eugene Yager and her parents, Reverend James Borders and Mildred Morrison Borders. She is survived by her brothers, Morrison (Nola) Borders of Ypsilanti, MI and David Gary Borders of Colorado; sister, Jamie (Joseph) Roskuski of Bonita Springs, FL; three sons, Brent (Dorene O’Malley) Graves of Asheville, NC, Shawn (Kim) Graves of Cumming, GA and Daryl (Christie) Yager of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Katie Graves of North Port, FL, Daniel (Emmy) Graves of Kings Mountain, NC, Coby Graves of Cumming, GA, Gavin Yager of Tuscaloosa, AL and Cameron Yager of Birmingham, AL; great grandson, Elliott Graves of Kings Mountain, NC; nieces and nephews.
