He was born April 10, 1936 in Bessemer City, NC to the late Bertie Holland and Edgar E. Wright Sr. Ed is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Miller Wright, and siblings Robert Evans Wright, Sr, Kathryn Wright Nichols, Elizabeth Wright Kiser, and Nancy Wright Hook.
He graduated from Bessemer City High School in 1954, where he was active in many clubs and a 3-year all-county captain of the football team. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving at the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, NC, where he specialized in aviation electronics and instrumentation and earned the National Defense Service Medal. After the Marine Corp, Ed attended North Carolina State University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1962. From there he went on to successful careers in insurance and real estate, living in Charlotte, NC before retiring and moving to Woodstock, GA in 1999 to be closer to his grandchildren.
Ed was a kind and generous man who loved being outdoors, boating, hunting and fishing. He could often be found tending to his garden and following NC State athletics. He was also an avid reader of history and expert at the card game Bridge. Most of all, Ed loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Wright leaves to cherish in his memory, children, Alan Wright, and his wife Sara, Edgar Evans Wright III and his wife Virginia; Grandchildren, Evan, Libby, Amanda, Amber, Zachary, Joshua, and Andrew and eight nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Monday, August 16th, 2021 from 10:00 am until 11:30 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 am at Woodstock Funeral Home (8855 Main Street, Woodstock, GA 30188). Burial will take place at Georgia National Cemetery at 1:30 pm (1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, GA 30114).
