Clarence Devaughn “Duke” Ellington, at age 88, of Woodstock, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on February 28, 2017. He was born on October 2, 1928 to Clarence and Ada Ellington in Shreveport, Louisiana. He married Suzanne Ellington in 1953 and they spent 64 loving years together.
In his free time, Duke enjoyed being a tool man and fixing things. He was quite the craftsman. He loved his garden and enjoyed working it. He always had a specific layout for it and grew many things. He enjoyed doing things such as canning his own peach preserves and making his own pickles. Along with gardening, he loved cooking. One of his favorite foods was Cajun.
Duke also had a wonderful sense of humor and liked to tell jokes and make people laugh. He worked in apartment management and was very passionate about it. He has lectured internationally and wrote a few books about the laws dealing with apartment communities. Duke also served in the United States Army.
He is preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Ada Ellington.
He is survived by wife, Suzanne Ellington; sons, Brett Ellington and Scott Ellington; grandchildren, Mallory Ellington, Elizabeth Ellington, Melinda Ellington and Anita Ellington; and a great-grandchild Ayden Love.
A Memorial Service will be held at Woodstock Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 2:00p.m. Arrangements are under the care of Woodstock Funeral Home.
