Cecil Winton Gibson of Acworth, GA went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 29, 2023. Cecil is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Gibson, his son, Cecil Allen Gibson and his parents, Alva and Betty Gibson. He leaves behind his daughter, Alicia Ann Gibson Davis; son-in-law, Christopher Scott Davis, and his grandchildren, Samuel Winton Davis, Sofia Grace Davis, and Lyla Faith Davis; as well as his step-granddaughter, Macie Parker Davis. In addition, his sister, Lois Anne Croft; brother-in-law William Larry Croft, and many nieces and nephews. Cecil was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Cecil leaves behind a vast legacy as his witness and love for the Lord touched so many lives. He regularly gave of his time, his talents and his heart. He loved to make others laugh and shared joy, love, kindness and wisdom with those in his midst. His greatest legacy of all is the love he had for his family. He cherished his time with family. He delighted in his children and grandchildren, and he instilled his love for Christ in them.
Cecil was a graduate of Cherokee High School and Southern Tech. He served in the US Army from 1967 – 1973. Cecil was awarded various medals and honors for his heroic service in Vietnam. He worked for Bellsouth as an electronic technician until his retirement. He also built and renovated homes that he and his late wife Patricia maintained as rental properties. One of his greatest joys, however, after retiring from Bellsouth, was to take care of his three grandbabies. He was the ultimate Pawpaw to those three as he taught them to pray, taught them about Christ, and loved on them relentlessly. He was their joy and they were his.
A visitation will be held at Woodstock Funeral Home on Friday February 3, from 6-8 pm. An additional visitation will be held at Bascomb United Methodist Church in Woodstock, GA on Saturday February 4, from 9-10 am, with the service immediately following at 10 am. Cecil will then be laid to rest at Rolling Hills Cemetery in Acworth, GA. There will be a live stream of the service available at https://www.facebook.com/BascombUMC.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bascomb United Methodist Church in Woodstock, GA in care of Cecil’s memory.
Cecil’s impact on this world will never be forgotten. From his family, his church, his friends, and so many he helped along the way. He truly embodied a servant’s heart with a larger-than-life personality, and he will always be loved and remembered. Well done, thy good and faithful servant. Matthew 25:23
