Barbara Sue Woodie

Barbara Sue Woodie, age 87 of Woodstock, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, August 23rd, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Inez & Carl Smith; a sister, Jean Hale; a brother, Ken Smith, and by a son-in-law, Charlie Strickland. She is survived by (2) daughters, Pam Strickland & Penny Sheppard (Husband, Ray); Grandchildren, Alicia Hardeman (Husband, Casey), and Melissa Mauldin (Husband, Harley); and Great-Grandchildren, Dylin Hardeman, Chazden Mauldin, Lexy Hardeman, & Carissa Mauldin.

Barbara was born on September 17th, 1935 in Cartersville, Georgia. She attended and graduated Acworth High School. She later married and moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she worked for Huckabee Transport and worked for the National Guard. She had always been told that she would never have children, but in 1956 she was blessed with one of “God’s true miracles” when she gave birth to TWIN daughters! Barbara was a true Christian and a prayer warrior all her life. She regularly attended First Baptist of Atlanta where she studied her faith under Dr. Charles Stanley. Later in life, after moving to Woodstock, Georgia, she became a member of First Baptist Church of Woodstock.

As a child, Barbara played softball, basketball, and would go on to play on the first women’s pro basketball teams. She loved all sports and she spent many a day or night in the stands supporting her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids at multiple sporting events. As of recent, she loved watching Atlanta Braves baseball games and University of Georgia football (Go Dawgs!). She also liked playing board games and listening to all genres of music. Barbara studied her Bible and devotional daily, and would pray with intent and consistently for all those with whom she came in contact. Most of all, her favorite times were those spent with family & friends, laughing and making lifelong memories.

A visitation for Barbara will be held Sunday, August 27, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Woodstock Funeral Home, 8855 Main Street, Woodstock, GA 30188. A funeral service will occur Sunday, August 27, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 8855 Main Street, Woodstock, GA 30188. A committal service will occur Sunday, August 27, 2023 from 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM at Sunset Memory Gardens, 790 Indian Mound Rd. SE, Cartersville, GA 30120.
