Shirley Zina (Wohl) Piniat, born July 13, 1925; died peacefully in her sleep on July 9, 2017. Beloved wife of the late John Piniat; aunt, great-aunt & great-great aunt to 23; and friend to many. She is pre-deceased by her brother Jerome Wohl. She was the daughter of Sadie and Max Wohl.
Shirley-Zina was a teacher, an artist and most of all an inspiration. She & her beloved husband travelled the world extensively, always giving of themselves.
In 2013, she made a solo trip to Cuba as part of a charitable excursion. Shirley resided in Jackson Heights for over 50 years and joyfully lived out her final days at Atria in Forest Hills; where she recently had a starring role in their talent show as Alice, in the play “Alarm”. She garnered the lead role because “they needed a blonde & I had the wig”.
Aunt Shirley/Zina maintained her sense of humor, social conscience & involvement with friends and family throughout her life. She will be sorely missed by family and friends far & wide.
In lieu of flowers donations to your favorite charity in memory of Shirley Z. Piniat would be greatly appreciated.
