She is survived by her children Ray (Ruth), Robin (Patricia), Neal, and Richard (Audra) Pixley; eight grandchildren Jonathan, Jessica, Sarah, Jason, Rachel (David), Mark (Kayla), Alyssa (Matthew) and Tori; two great grandchildren, Matthew and Aubree. She was sister to the late Angus Murison II (late Jean). She is survived by her sister Adelaide Johnson (late John) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives in the Murison family of New Jersey and the Pixley family of Southern Illinois. She is also survived by her good friend Trudy Friedrich.
Mary graduated from Bay Ridge High School and studied at the National Bible Institute where she earned a degree in Religious Education. She subsequently earned a Master Degree in Education from Hunter College. She was a Navy Veteran (flight trainer) having served for 2 years during WWII. After the war, Mary moved to Long Island City, where she lived for almost 70 years. Mary worked as an English Reading Specialist at Intermediate School 126 in Queens NY, retiring in the 1980s.
Mary’s church life was very important to her. In 1929, at the age of 10, Mary was converted and baptized in Bay Ridge Baptist Church (Brooklyn). In 1950, Mary was one of the original members of the Astoria Baptist Church, where she served as a treasurer and teacher for many years. She joined Calvary Baptist Church (Manhattan) in 1979 and was a member for over 40 years.
A gathering for a short funeral home viewing will be on March 26th at 11 AM to 12 noon at Thomas M. Quinn & Sons, 41-45 58th Street, Woodside NY 11377. Interment will be held the same day at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY (L187 S105). We will first assemble at 1 PM by the cemetery office at the Main Entrance, 5th Avenue and 25th Street, to be led into the cemetery to the prepared site.
