Mary Brady Heaney, a lifetime Woodside resident, passed away on May 20 after a very short illness. Mary was 106 years young. Born on April 4, 1917 Mary attended Newtown High School and worked as a secretary at various places including her favorite, The St. Regis Hotel, and was one of the typists for the Manhattan Project. Mary is predeceased by her siblings Rose, Hugh and Eugene, her beloved husband, James P. Heaney and her son, James. She is survived by her children Eugene (Donna) Heaney and Mary Ann (Michael) Kusterer. Mary was the devoted grandmother of Kelly (Michael) Moore, Christopher (Chuck) Heaney, Brian (Katherine) Kusterer, Megan Kusterer, and Kevin (Rory) Kusterer. Mary was so proud of and loved her five great grandchildren Emma, James, Annabelle, Maggie and Cooper.
A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Sebastian RC Church, Woodside, NY, will be offered on Friday, May 26 at 10:45 where Mary was a devoted parishioner since she was 18 years old. Interment is at Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, New York.
Mary will be missed by all those who knew and loved her for her generosity and kindness. In Lieu of flowers donations in Mary’s name can be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center or The Gary Sinise Foundation.
