Marty was born on June 9, 1932 in Boston, Massachusetts. His parents were Charles and Anne Adler and had a younger brother Robert. Marty was raised in Boston before settling into his life with his Wife Janet in New York.
Family and children were the most important things to Marty. Marty married Janet on October 17, 1959 at St. Patrick’s RC Church where they both served the parish and they grew together in their love and marriage for almost 57 years. They were blessed with three beautiful children, two sons David and Robert and a daughter Laura. They were also blessed with four grandchildren Allison, Jonathan, Nicholas and Bianca.
Marty was in the Air Force where he served in the Korean War and achieved the rank of Airman First Class. When he was discharged he returned to New York where he worked multiple sales jobs throughout the area. One of the jobs he held was working as a Deputy Clerk for a Federal Judge at the United States District Court. He held this job for over 29 years. After he retired he went to Riccardo’s serving as a Manager a few days a week where he enjoyed the company of so many special people. He was also a long time active member of the Dutch Kills Civic Association.
Marty passed away on September 19, 2016 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital due to complications from lung cancer. One of the most beautiful things he taught this world is how to laugh and be humorous even in the hardest situations or times. Laughter was the best medicine for Marty and he leaves the world with a light that he will forever shine into the hearts of others. He is survived by his wife Janet, children David and his wife Lavinia, Robert and his wife Corina, and Laura and her husband Kenny, his grandchildren Allison, Jonathan, Bianca and her husband Thiago and Nicholas; his brother Robert and his wife Karen. Services were held at St. Patrick’s RC Church. Marty was laid to rest in Calverton National Park Cemetery.
Marty will be remembered by all of the lives he touched as a kind, caring, compassionate and fun-filled man. He will be greatly missed and loved by everyone around him.
