Cruz “Tita” Valentin passed away peacefully on September 7, 2022. She was the beloved mother of Crucita “Cookie”, Eddie and Mercedes.
Born in Rincon, Puerto Rico she was the only daughter of Pascual and Mercedes Valentin. She came to NYC as a young girl and settled into life in NYC’s Hell’s Kitchen with her 2 brothers, Gilberto and Eugenio and her Mother and Father. She attended HS and married young. She lived in the neighborhoods of Hell’s Kitchen, Brooklyn and spent many years living in Far Rockaway, Queens. She met her life partner Randolfo “Randy” Morales when she worked in Manhattan. They moved back to Puerto Rico for over 10 years and lived a wonderful and peaceful life until Randy went to be with the Lord. She then came back to NY and she moved to Forest Hills NY, with her son Eddie, and his wife Doris.
Tita worked in NYC for a manufacturer of garments and belts. She was a fantastic cook, and made the best Puerto Rican foods that everyone loved. Sunday night dinners in Far Rockaway were always made special because she cooked and the entire Valentin family came together to share good times, eat good food and make wonderful memories as a family. She was devoted to her Mother for whom she cared for until she went to be with the Lord. Tita, was a favorite aunt to her many nieces and nephews who lovingly called her “Titi”. She was funny, glamorous, and loving to all and especially her brothers. She called them not by their names, just simply “brother”.
Tita was a devoted Mom, and loved her children and grandchildren immensely. She played a key role in raising her brother’s children, acting as a mother figure to them as well. She loved to play the lottery in hopes that one day “she would hit the big one” for her children to have a better life. They would all say that she left them “the best life” because she was actively in that life. She loved the old ponchos trio music and watched all the great TV shows, Dallas, Knots Landing and the soap operas on TV.
She is survived by her children, Crucita “Cookie” Lopez, Edward Saviano, and Mercedes Ojeda. Her grandchildren, Alexander, Angeli’, Hector Jr., Christine, and David. Her great-grandchildren Zariahlesse and Amoralesse. Son-in-law Hector, Daughter-in-law Donyel, Sister-in-laws Claribel Valentin and Migdalia. Niece Lissette, Nephews, Gilbert, Gene, Frank, and Pascual and many grand nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is predeceased by her beloved brothers Eugenio, Gilberto, her daughter -in-law Doris, her beloved partner Randy and her Mother Mercedes and Father Pascual.
