Family
It is with great sadness to let you know that our beloved Aunt and Sister has passed away in New York on March 8, 2013. Ana was born on the Island of Krk in Croatia on October 17, 1938 to the parents of Ivan and Kate Milohnic. After completing school in Rijeka, Croatia -- she worked in the fashion arena first in New York, then Paris and eventually settled in New York until her retirement in 2001. Her retirement years were split between New York and her beautiful summer home on the Island of Krk. Ana is the beloved sister of Dara Simonetty and sister-in-law of Dragica Milohnic. Ana's five remaining siblings predeceased her and are named Anton, Cila, Nevenka, Bosiljka and Jelica. Loving aunt of Neven, Ana maria, Bosiljka, Maria , Ive, Marica, Zlatko (rest in peace).Cherished great-aunt of Sebastian, Julian, Joe, Tommy, Katie, Ines, Marin, Steven, Kristian, Ronald, Mate and Paola. She was so much fun, always joking and telling jokes that her great-nephews referred to her as Teti A.
Life
Living life in the fast lane suited Ana just fine. It is no surprise that she loved to travel and to visit new and different places. She was naturally curious about other parts of the world and loved the real life adventure that came from visiting them. She was impulsive and willing to try anything once. Some of her favorite vacations included going to Croatia, Italy, Hawaii, Colorado, Florida, Las Vegas and Atlantic City. She loved to play cards (i.e., Briscola) with Marica, Zlatko, Tony and Boris. She was a cat lover all of her life and spent many years with -- Bootsie, Muffy and Tigre (who resided on Krk).
During the period when she underwent cancer treatment she would like to thank all that supported her and called her often -- these are too many to mention, but you know who you are! Additionally, besides Neven, Silvana, Sebastian and Julian with whom she resided this past year -- she wanted to thank the following for assisting her and accompanying her to her many, many appointments -- Marica, Zlatko, Ingrid, Kristian, Boris, Ana, Mary, Margie and Nada -- there may have been more please forgive me for any omissions.
Career
This portion was provided by Paula Saker and where Ana met some of her life long friends from the fashion industry. Ana's father was a tailor. She learned her trade from hard work and experience. After growing up in Croatia she went to Paris and worked for a design house. Ana worked for several ladies clothing companies one of which was Paula Saker & Co. It was a big family there for over 20 years. Many of her friends also worked with her in between other jobs. Margo Greenberg brought her there to work on a jean line and they kept her there to run the pattern department. Paula & Carey, Mary Chin, Pat Brown and many others have wonderful memories of Holiday Parties, Christenings & Weddings. She was always there with her smile and jokes. She went on to work for Dana Buckman a division of Liz Claiborne. She was invaluable to them until her retirement. They used to beg her to come back!
Donations
CROATIAN RELIEF SERVICES, a non-profit humanitarian organization based in Fairview, NJ. It is run by Fr. Giordano Belanich. He started it up in 1992 to send aid to Croatia during the war. They sent food, clothing, medical supplies, furniture, and anything else that was needed. Now that things are stable back home, he has expanded the project to include other areas around the word in need. Lately, he has been focusing on Haiti. The organization was, and is in the process of buying a facility in Port-Au-Prince Haiti, to start up an orphanage. Considering the recent devastation, efforts have been shifted to a more immediate relief effort.
