Steven Earl Spaudie was born Dec. 26, 1941, in Wilmar, MN, son of Earl Gust and Oradell Veronica (Beck) Spaudie. He was baptized on Feb 1, 1942 by Rev Heidtke, at St Paul Lutheran Church in Hector, MN. Steve grew up in Fairfax MN and attended St John Lutheran School. He was confirmed by Rev Vatthauer at St. John Lutheran Church. He graduated from Fairfax High School in 1959. He later went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Metro State University and an MBA from Lake Forest College.
On Nov 12, 1960, he married Bernice Lagrange at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton, MN. They were blessed with 3 children, Christine, Steven, and Andrew.
Steven loved the Lord and enjoyed being active in a number of churches over the years. He would often volunteer to help serve communion at the 11pm Christmas church service so the younger elders could be at home with their families. Hymn Chief of Sinners was his father’s favorite hymn. Having lost his father at a young age, this hymn always kept him close to his father. Hymn Onward Christian Soldiers was also important to him personally in his Christian faith.
Steven loved baseball and other sports. He had numerous NY Yankee hats that he wore often. He was once asked if he followed the Yankees, he said “no, I just like the hat”. He really enjoyed following the Twins as well as the ups and downs of being a Viking fan.
Steven is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bernie; children Christine (Christopher) Nisbet, Steve (Nancy) Spaudie, and Andrew (Nancy) Spaudie. Grandchildren Erika (Jeremy) Nisbet James, Heidi (Tyler) Nisbet Reitz, Elliot (Rachel) Spaudie, Kaitlyn (Ben) Spaudie Van Dyke, Conrad Spaudie, Evelyn Spaudie, William Spaudie; Great Grandchildren Peter Reitz, Tevin James, Ayla James, Eva James, “Scooby” Spaudie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents Gustav and Bertha Spaudie, Andrew and Wilhelmina Beck.
In Lieu of flowers, dad would have loved a good beef brisket.
