Ross was born August 16, 1986 in Seoul, South Korea and came to his adoptive parents February 16, 1987, six months later. Ross, when he was young, loved to be rocked and read to before bed. He was an inquisitive boy and from an early age he liked to watch and “help” his mother, Kim, bake and cook. Ross began making his own breakfast on the stovetop at about age 7. He attended grade school at New Life Academy and junior and senior high schools in the Woodbury school system.
Ross loved soccer, he played youth soccer and then in junior and senior high school. He often watched broadcasts of European matches on TV. His favorite team was the Chelsea Football Club in England. His playing days ended about 7 years ago when he suffered a torn Achilles tendon in a pick-up game. Ross liked to camp and fish. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Wild.
Ross had an interest in politics, world affairs, and history, especially Korean history. He often took a position contrary to his own beliefs, just for the sake of argument and discussion. Kent suggested to Ross, who was diagnosed with ADHD in grade school that he would make a good attorney. Ross replied, “Dad, do you think I could sit still for an hour while a boring law professor lectured on tax law?” Well, Ross was right. He couldn’t sit still. Ross needed to do something that was hands-on and it led to his career as a cook and chef.
Ross worked for various employers during his too short career. He worked at Concordia Language Village near Cass Lake doing ethnic cooking for language groups. He cooked for residents of the Masonic Home in Bloomington and was a sushi chef for Masu at the Mall of America. Most recently he was sushi chef at Origami, the well-regarded restaurant in the Uptown area in Minneapolis.
Ross, your many friends and loved ones will miss your smile, laugh, and sense of humor.
