Laurel Rose Van Gundy

Laurel Van Gundy, 84, of Lake Elmo, MN, passed away suddenly at her home on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

She was born June 29, 1940, in Oconomowoc, WI, to her father, Gerhard Emil Radtke, deceased, and mother, Esther Louise Radtke (nee Schneider), deceased; and baptized on July 14, 1940, at St. John Lutheran Church in Ashippun, WI. Laurel was married to Robert Van Gundy on June 1, 1963, at the same St. John Lutheran Church in Ashippun.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Irma Krelwitz, Doris Berry, Jeanne Schwartz, and Gilbert Radtke.

Those left to cherish her memory are: husband of 61 years, Bob; daughters Carrie (and Paul) Kroenke of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Liesl (and Lynn) Christensen of Ainsworth, NE; grandchildren: Alex Kroenke, Andrew (and Marissa) Kroenke, Katie (and Noah) Bolin, Josh Christensen (fiancé Emma Lambeck), and Isaac Christensen; great-grandchildren: Clarice Kroenke, Theodore Kroenke, Lyndsey Bolin and James Kroenke.

Besides being a loving, selfless, and dedicated mother and wife, Laurel was very active in volunteer work at her church and other venues, including Meals on Wheels, Red Cross, tutoring of international students at the University Lutheran Chapel in Minneapolis, and counseling young women at the Pregnancy Resource Center also located at ULC.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Paul, MN. Rev. Scott Missling will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 4-5:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
