Survived by wife Judith Elaine (Erickson) Rys and children Teresa (Teri) Rys, David Rys and Sarah Rys(Jeff), grandson Jacob (Jake) Ptaszynksi and sister Joanne (Rys) Spevacek. Preceded in death by parents Anthony (Tony) Rys and Mary Macosek (Maciaszek) and sister; Mary Louise (Rys) Mayleben.
Born on the North side of Minneapolis. Attended grade school at St. Philip’s Catholic School, attended high school at DeLaSalle (1955) on Nicollet Island. BA. in Chemistry (1959) and Master’s in Information Science (1961) both from University of Minnesota. Law Degree (1980) from William Mitchell College of Law. Served in Army Reserves 1959-1965, trained as combat medic and ambulance driver at Fort Sam Houston, Brooks Army Medical Center, in San Antonio, TX. Worked for Whirlpool Corp. 1963-1966 in St. Joseph, Michigan. Worked for 3M in St. Paul, MN and retired in 1998 after 32 years. Hobbies included: genealogy, church records databases, genealogy DNA, history of the Polish community of Northeast Minneapolis, bowling, golf and Eastern Blue Bird recovery activities.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, April 11, 2025 at 11:00 AM with Visitation one hour prior to service, from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 4125 Woodbury Dr., Woodbury, MN 55129. A luncheon will immediately follow at the church. Interment will follow the luncheon at Guardian Angels Catholic Cemetery, Oakdale, MN.
