He was born on July 20, 1933 in Tonawanda, NY where he had fond memories of raising goats and diving for mussels and clams. He later moved with his family to Fort McCoy, FL where, as a youth, he enjoyed working at Ross Allen's Reptile World wrangling snakes and reptiles, giving tours and learning to fly a small plane. He joined the Air Force at the age of 17, serving in Korea and Germany and was very proud of his service and country. He eventually settled in St. Paul where he met Grace. They made many memories together there, in Florida, East Bethel, MN and then Woodbury.
Jack worked for Unisys for over 30 years as a Program Director, trouble shooter and developer of computer parts for Trident submarines, working closely with the Navy. He was regarded as someone who could really get the job done.
Jack enjoyed walking through the woods hunting, fishing and building and creating things throughout his life. He built several houses, beautiful fireplaces at his home and church, installed swimming pools for the family and built a log cabin in his retirement. His retirement was filled with golf outings with friends here in MN and during his winters on the beach in Gulf Shores, AL with Grace.
He spoiled his children and loved being "Papa" to his grandchildren; sorting shells, giving out chocolate bars and advice, playing cribbage and even carrying sprinkles in his pocket when they went out for pancakes. These last years he also enjoyed many walks through the park on his electric scooter with family and friends.
Jack's faith in Jesus Christ was important to him and we celebrate that he is now in his eternal home in Heaven.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Grace, daughters Jill Hodne (Kevin) and Dr. Ann Lavers (Tim Bramer) and his beloved grandchildren Piper and Mia Hodne, Anika, Maxwell and Evelyn Bramer as well as relatives and friends. He will be dearly missed.
