Dr. John.  I knew him during his years in Onida during the 70's.  We were both young single men at the time and we became buddies and had a few good times together.  John was a great Doctor for our community at the time and everyone loved him because he got involved both as a Doctor and a friend with his patients. He had a strong sense of volunteerism and promoted physical fitness. One of his projects was promoting community volleyball teams which evolved into several volleyball tournaments here in Onida. As I remember he served on our local school board for a time. Being a Doctor and volunteer in a small community did wear him out a little as I believe he had a tendency to over extend himself.  He was probably the most eligible bachelor in Onida at the time and every mother in town hoped that he would go out with their daughter. John and a few of us other single guys managed to go skiing in the Black Hills a few times which was great fun. I lost track of John a few years after he moved to Reno.

Thank-you so much for sharing his life and family on this site.  It was so nice to see Johns life in pictures and see his family and his later life.  John was a good man. My sympathies to your family.

1973, Onida, SD. John and I started out young and filled with enthusiasm. We set up a family clinic in the middle of nowhere South Dakota. John was just out of school and so unlike most doctors in the area.  He wore casual shirts and jeans (always meticulously clean)even when he was making rounds in the hospital in Pierre. He allowed fathers in the delivery room (outrageous for the area).  Everything he did for his patients was done with kindness and common sense. He had no faults in my eyes other than he hated to dictate.  He was such a strong man of integrity.  It was lonely to be the "new kid on the block" (Pierre) medical community.  He paved the way for common sense medicine and seeing his patients as his friends first.  The community loved him, he had 900 new friends in his first year there. He needed the company of a dog even back then-huge Irish Wolfhound,he loved him and it was with him everywhere.  Gotta love him.  He was a good memory for me, a good man.  I am so happy he found you Teresa and the joy of children in his life.  I was his nurse-Stevie.  He was my friend, my doctor, my champion. Bless you all for making him complete.

I always enjoyed working with John.  He had an honest interest in the lives of those around him not least of which were the patient's that he gave excellent care to.  I had the privilege of talking to him on the phone a few weeks prior to his passing and enjoyed that brief chat greatly.  I am saddened that it will be some time until we can chat again.  A donation has been made to the Twin Cities Red Cross in his honor.

Although we love you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. Dear Tres and family. We are so so sorry to hear about John. I still remember how special it was when he came to visit our Dad in the hospital when he was ill. He was loved by many people and helped many people in his lifetime. Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you.

I have OFTEN wondered where is Dr John Knutson. As reading the St Paul paper today, I was given my answer. Dr John was our family Doctor while he practiced in Woodville WI. A very wonderful & caring man. People move away & you sometimes loose contact.

Our memories of John are so rich and vibrant as we look back over the past 25+ years - Reno, Woodville & Woodbury. He was a very loving husband and father, but most importantly he loved Jesus.  The way he lived his life reflected his intense, passionate love for the Lord, and we now celebrate his homecoming with his Heavenly Father.
