Passed away on May 23rd, 2015 in St. Paul, MN. Charles was born in St. Paul, MN to Daniel and Anna McCallum on August 25, 1922. He graduated from Harding High School and soon after worked for International Harvester. In 1943, during WW2, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Motor Machinist's Mate on LSTs 665 and 690 with the Amphibious Forces, having participated in the Invasion of Southern France and also in the Mediterranean and Pacific Theaters.
His lifelong career was serving as a Firefighter with the City of St. Paul Fire Department, appointed in 1949 as a Firefighter with Hook & Ladder #7 and later served most of his time with Engine #8. In 1984 he retired, having served his community 35 years. He was a man of strong Christian faith and knew his Bible well. Early in his life he attended the River Lake Gospel Tabernacle in Minneapolis, which had lifelong impact. His pastimes included mechanical work with cars and motorcycles, and he repaired electronics and radios.
Charles is survived by his Sister, Kathryn (James) Morphew, of Oakdale, Sister, Mary Barrett, of Minneapolis, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his Brother, William McCallum and his Sister, Helen Murphy. Funeral Service will be held at Wulff Funeral Home, 2195 Woodlane Drive, Woodbury, on June 1st at 11:00 AM with Reverend Jim Anderson of The Harbor Church officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, 7601 34th Avenue South, Minneapolis. Visitation will be held 1 hour before funeral at Wulff Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Union Gospel Mission or the Salvation Army.
Charlie was a warm and loving man, having cared for his entire family of sisters, nieces and nephews his whole life. He was special in our lives, we all loved him and will miss him dearly.
