Bruce J. Thompson (91) passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends after battling esophageal cancer. Bruce was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He was a welcoming friend to all who met him and touched many lives. Bruce was a proud Korean War veteran and a long time employee of St. Paul parks and recreation having spent years as a custodian at Hazel Park playground and many years as a foreman/supervisor in the park system. Bruce had a passion for his family which extended to his lifelong “card club” friends, the friends of his children, his neighbors and their families and just about everyone he met. Bruce was a lover of pets and all of his family has surrounded him with animals that loved “Grandpa”. His unwavering compassion, quick wit and zest for enjoying your best life will carry-on in all who knew him.
Bruce is preceded in death by father Leslie, mother Louise “Ma” Thompson and step-father Emmanuel Benjamin. Survived by wife of 67 years Jackie Thompson, sons Bruce (Patty), and Eric (Shelly), daughter Karin (Paul) Misiewicz, grandchildren Bruce/BJ (Kelly), Andrew (Haleigh), Tyler and Tory Thompson, Bill (Keri) and Dan Haslach, and 3 great-grandchildren. Also many extended family of in-laws, nieces, and nephews who loved him dearly. Special thanks to the staff at the Pillars for the exceptional care they gave to Bruce.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 27th at 11:00am with visitation from 9:00am - 11:00am at St. Ambrose of Woodbury with private burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
