As written by Olga herself:
I was born south of Candiac in the Netherby District. I was the 4th child born to William and Anna Short. I attended Netherby School until Grade 9 and then stayed home to help out on the farm. We later went to Regina to find work. In 1950 I got married to the love of my life Gerald Cross. In 1951, we moved to Maidstone where we stayed for two years. In 1952, our daughter Debbie was born. In 1954 we moved back toward Regina. We worked for many farmers and then back to Regina where Gerry got a job at the Arcola School as a janitor and I worked at the General Hospital (Should have stayed there…ha). In 1958, our son Dale was born. Farming was in our blood and we moved back to Glenavon to start farming on the Al Wortman farm. In 1960 things were hard and it was a very dry year. We combined 300 bushels of wheat and had no power and no running water. Things got better as we milked cows, raised chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese. We only bought the groceries from the cream cheques and eggs that the store bought. Finally in 1961 we got power! In 1961 things got a little easier. The children went to school in Glenavon. I grew a big garden and I trucked grain until I was 65. In 1996 we moved to the town of Glenavon. There I still had my garden and flowers. I help with many organizations when needed. Papa (Gerry) passed away in 2011. I have 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild which I love very much!
