Lauren Lynne Thomson, (Chanska Sinde Sa Wiya - Red Tailed Hawk Woman) started her journey to the spirit world on Sunday September 24, 2023 at the age of 64 surrounded by her loving family. Lauren was a warrior who fought a hard 14 year battle against cancer. We wish that we could have had more time with her, but we are forever grateful for the extra time we were blessed with.
Lauren was born in Wolseley, Saskatchewan on November 1, 1958 as the 3rd child of Nelson and Edith (Ryder) Thomson. Lauren was a loving gregarious person and was a great mother, sister, auntie, cousin and friend. She had the enviable ability to make friends easily and was loved and admired by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Lauren was a loyal fun loving friend who was blessed to grow up and got into a lot of shenanigans with a tight group of sister/cousins who remained close and supported her throughout her lifetime.
Lauren leaves behind her loving daughter Macey McKay who was her devoted primary caregiver throughout her many battles with various types of cancer, Neka Redfeather her much loved only grandchild whom she fought hard to stay alive and accomplish the goal of seeing her graduate high school. Lauren is also survived by her siblings Darryl Ryder, Tovah Thomson, Dean Thomson, Kelly Thomson, Vance Thomson, Lesa (Craig) Swainston, Nakia Thompson, Willis (Kendra) Thomson, and Chantel Spencer. Lauren leaves behind aunties, numerous precious nieces, nephews, cousins, and special sister cousins Carol Thomson, Sheryl Thomson, Kimberly Tootoosis and Rowena Fourhorns.
Lauren was preceded into the spirit world by her beloved son Jordan Mckay, parents Edith and Nelson Thomson, grandparents’ James and Birdie Thomson and Charles and Grace Ryder, brother Shane Thomson, sister Leah Thomson, niece Polly Poitras, and special sister/cousin Debra Thomson (the dynamic duo are together again), along with her great grand-furbaby Eli (hamster), and a multitude of loved aunties and uncles.
We are comforted in knowing that Lauren is celebrating being back in the arms of her multitude of loved ones, but in particularly being reunited with her son who started his journey to the spirit world just 7 weeks ago.
The wake was held in the Community Hall at Cegakin Nakoda Nation (Carry The Kettle First Nation) on Tuesday September 26, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service was also held in the Community Hall at Cegakin Nakoda Nation (Carry The Kettle First Nation) on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. with the interment following in the Middle Cemetery at Cegakin Nakoda Nation (Carry The Kettle First Nation.)
