Fern Kay was born on July 7, 1966 and was called home on May 20th, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones.
He was predeceased by his grandparents Moshum John and Kokum Minnie; mother Beatrice (Bea) Assoon; father Joseph Kay (Chummy); brother Dean and his baby boy Jody Fern Bobb.
Fern left to mourn his life partner Colleen Bobb; children: Naomi, Arlen, Brenna, PK Subban, KashaCat, and Kenzieboy; siblings: Topsy, Nana, Dallas (Tony), Jay-boy Bobby, Chelsea and Johnny; grandbabies: Meena, Connor, Teyarra, Niya, Brie, Autumn, Trey, Deonte and Oaklan and many other grandbabies.
Fern lived in Kahkewistahaw for 31 years and loved the community. He took great pride in coaching the Kahkewistahaw Little Eagles baseball team. Fern enjoyed playing fastball and slow pitch and loved to watch his children play sports. Fern loved his sports and his teams, the Montreal Canadiens and the Boston Red Sox. He especially loved cheering against Colleen when they had the chance to have a little Rivalry. Fern enjoyed listening to and watching pow wow. He took great pride in his lawn. Fern made sure everyone was fed at the house and was always trying out new recipes for his family. The requests were usually a big breakfast aka a Fernie Kay breakfast or his amazing chilli. Fern was always texting “whats da news?” or “Where you by???”, “kiss baby for me” “????” those texts will be greatly missed.
The wake was held in the Kahkewistahaw Community Complex, Kahkewistahaw First Nation on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. A traditional feas twas held in the Kahkewistahaw Community Complex on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Dexter Asapace officiating. Interment followed in the Kahkewistahaw Cemetery.
