Smith, Wallace , 92, of Winter Park, Florida, died on Friday, January 19, 2018. Born October 1, 1925 in Wheeling, West Virginia, he was adopted at birth by Wallace Hudson Smith and Patience Elliott Smith of Glen Dale, West Virginia. Wallace was a career officer in the United States Navy and attained the rank of Commander before retiring from active duty after 28 years of service. He had been selected for, and served in, command billets both at sea and ashore. He was a Life Member of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA). He and his family moved to Winter Park from Texas in 1971. Since 2003, he and his wife of 59 years, the former Barbara Jean Feeney, whom he met and married in Boston, Massachusetts, resided at Westminster Winter Park formerly the Winter Park Towers in Winter Park, Florida. He was predeceased by his wife, their eldest son Randolph and their youngest daughter Colleen. He is survived by their daughter Paula Dyl, sons Gregory, Christopher, Stephen and several grand and great-grand children. He was a Catholic and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Wallace on Friday, January 26th at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Margaret Mary Church Chapel, 526 N. Park Avenue, Winter Park, FL 32789. Interment will be in the Acacia Columbarium South, in Glen Haven Memorial Park and Mausoleum, 2300 Temple Drive, Winter Park, FL 32789 at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to religious organizations or favorite charities in Wallace's name.
