Patrick Willam "Terry" Doyle, of Winter Park, Florida passed away unexpectedly on February 24, 2021 at the age of 79. He was born in DeLand, Florida on June 16, 1941, the youngest of James Valentine Doyle Sr. and Nora Cecilia Colleran Doyle’s 10 children.
Patrick graduated from DeLand High School in 1959. He earned a bachelor’s degree from George Washington University in 1963. After graduating from the College of Law at the University of Florida, he enlisted into the US Army and served as First Lieutenant.
Patrick began his law practice in 1970 in Winter Park, Florida, where he was a partner of Murrah, Doyle & Wigle PA on Morse Avenue and practiced for nearly 50 years.
He loved Winter Park and co-founded the College Quarter Neighborhood Association near Rollins College to help preserve the charm and character of the area where he lived for most of his life. He also volunteered as the association’s vice-president for many years.
Patrick’s passion for history sparked his desire to travel. Over the years, he visited many areas of Europe, the Caribbean and other destinations. He learned to speak French and visited Paris a few times, and he also favored the Greek Isles and Istanbul. While his adventures focused on the historical sites, he eagerly savored the local food and culture.
His joy of reading and learning was evident by his personal home library, and he always had a “good read” suggestion if you asked. His love of books and Florida history inspired his published article in the Florida Historical Quarterly (vol. 78, #2, fall 1999).
Patrick was a great conversationalist. His quick intellect, challenging questions and witty banter kept his dinner companions entertained, and he had a knack for making everyone think their opinions were the most important in the group. He always looked forward to a little friendly competition on trivia night at the neighborhood Fiddler's Green Tavern, where he socialized with friends over pints of Guinness.
Later in life, Patrick enjoyed “staycations” when his daughter and grandchildren came to town. A dedicated Gator fan, he loved watching the football games on TV with family, and he also spent his free time relaxing at the beach, the springs and the front porch of his much-beloved family home in DeLand — always with his dog nearby. His faithful companions included Rusty, Nike, Ajax and Amber.
Patrick is survived by his beloved daughter, Erin Doyle Teipel whom he shared with former spouse Janet Van Horn Charity. He is also survived by his grandson Colton Scott Teipel, his wife Megan Economos Teipel and great-grandson Harrison Scott and also grandson Brennen Scout and granddaughter Lauren Austen, all from the Macon, GA area.
He is also survived by his eldest brother James V. Doyle Jr. and his wife Sara Visconti Doyle of Cocoa Beach. He was predeceased by his parents, and siblings Thomas Doyle, Richard Doyle, Dennis Doyle, Jerry Doyle, Jack Doyle, Louise Doyle Baker, Rose Doyle Rempe and Lynn Doyle Carroll.
He is also survived by his long-time law partner and good friend, Bruce Wigle.
Patrick was fondly referred to as Uncle Terry by his many nieces and nephews who adored their "fun" uncle who always found time to chat with them.
He will be lovingly remembered as a smiling, fun-loving and kind father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, and he will be greatly missed.
