Lynn Maurer was born on September 22, 1953, in the small Midwestern town of Lima, Ohio. At the age of 69 Lynn passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Monday, January 16, 2023 at 2:51 pm eastern time in Orlando, Florida. She is survived by her loving husband Paul, and brothers Dale (Gwendolyn) and Jeff, nieces Jennifer and Katherine and nephew Robert.
Lynn spent her childhood years in Gahanna, Ohio, graduating Gahanna Lincoln High School. After graduating from high school, Lynn attended Eastern Kentucky University, where she pursued a degree in Mathematics and Secondary Education. An avid lover of math, Lynn started her teaching career in Kentucky where she taught for 8 years before moving to Florida to live closer to her Mom and get out of the cold. While in Florida, Lynn taught math at Lake Howell High School in Winter Park, Florida where she retired in 2015 after 30 years.
Lynn loved the ocean and boating along the intercoastal. She was fascinated with dolphins and manatees. In addition to her love of the water, Lynn was always motivated to serve her local community. She dedicated much of her non-teaching time to growing and leading the Lake Howell chapter of Civitan International, a service organization focused on serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through local projects, charitable events and research funding. Throughout her years of service with Civitan, Lynn was widely recognized with a variety of high profile service awards.
Lynn’s contributions to her local community touched so many lives, both through her work at Civitan and her time tutoring student athletes at Lake Howell High School. Lynn’s life and actions will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved her. In her memory, we ask that donations be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) or the American Diabetes Association.
A Celebration of Life will be April 29th at Lake Howell High School from 10:00 A.M. - 11:30 A.M.
