Lindy was born September 11, 1951, in Daytona Beach, FL to the late Phillip and Sara Vining. She spent her childhood in Lakeland and graduated from Florida Technological University (UCF). Her career began in elementary education, evolved into conflict negotiation and counseling, and eventually led her to start the family-run insurance agency – Vining Rich Group, which is still in business today. With a heart for serving others, Lindy was tapped by AmeriCorps in the early 1990s to lead efforts in South Florida; and she served on many volunteer boards over the years including the Lakewood Center (formerly La Amistad Foundation), and the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
Lindy filled her days with Bridge groups, golf, reading, sewing/cross-stitch, and time with her beloved grandchildren. She loved traveling with her husband and friends, boating, and her two puppies. Lindy was endearingly a “mother figure” to many – although the two who called her “Mom” were her true devotion and joy. Those who knew and treasured Lindy will forever miss her signature auburn hair, bright smile, ability to make everyone she met feel welcomed and at home, “Hi, honey” greetings, and heart of pure gold. Her legacy of integrity, humility and grace will live on in those whose lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her brother C. Geoffrey Vining. She is survived by her adoring husband James R. Kuykendall, Jr. “Bobby,” loving children Ryan Rich (Nicole), Robin Blalock (Wade), Lee Kuykendall (Lisa), Caroline Frederick, Catherine Quintieri (Anthony), and cherished grandchildren Merritt and Walker Rich; Anderson, Cole and Rich Blalock; Luke, Jack and Blake Kuykendall; Caitlan, Emma and Bryson Frederick; and Paul and Caroline Quintieri.
A memorial service will be held at Interlachen Country Club later this Fall. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to please consider making a donation to the Orlando Health Foundation and it will be directed towards cancer research in Lindy’s memory.
