I remember Johnny at Leon High School.  When he was 15 through 18, he was a friend to everyone, always with a neat grin. I moved to Orlando in 1970, and was fortunate to be his banker
 for many years.  Although he was a highly successful lawyer, he never change, he was a friend to everyone, 

John will always be in my thoughts. One of the kindest and most gracious individuals I had the honor of knowing. 
My fondest memory of John was after prepping for a trial and knowing every aspect of the case, we met early for breakfast on the day of trial, he looked at me and said” you all good to go?” I replied; absolutely!  He grinned and said, well good forget all that, just follow my lead. One of the best trial attorneys I’ve ever known. I had the honor of working with John in his last trial.  God Speed  John Overchuck! 

Remembering John on this day.  A great man, never to be forgotten.

I first met Johnny in the 9th grade at Tallahassee Leon High.  He was and easy going classmate that had a genuine,  great personality and many friends.  The bank I worked with transferred me to Orlando in 1970  and I was fortunate to do business with Johnny in Orlando.  He never changed, always straight forward, conservative and very successful. His word was his bond.  Truly a great man that lived his life right. 

John was a true believer in improving the lives of his clients through the justice system.
He was not only my partner for several years , but he was my friend and will always be remembered for his spirit, vitality, and passion for the law.  I will always embrace his commitment to justice and compassion for the most vulnerable among us.

Thankful to have cared for such a sweet and kind person. Prayers to all of his family and friends.

Before becoming a successful trial lawyer in Orlando, Johnny Overchuck added many memories of youthful fun and laughter to the lives of his innumerable friends at Leon High School in Tallahassee.  His wide, sincere grin and willingness to listen to, exchange meaningful conversations with, and help others in any way that he could will never be forgotten.  My thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones at this most difficult time.


John and I both met our nemeses in plane geometry in Leon, he receiving even a worse blow than I.  We both  graduated from Leon in 1960 as December babies, became trial lawyers, and ultimately ended up practicing in Orlando.  He never forgot what happened to him with plane geometry, still commenting on it the last time I visited with him, and saying he found his redemption for that through big success as a trial lawyer.  Blessings to him and his family.

I was very sad to hear of John Overchuck's passing. He was one of the first lawyers I met when I started practicing more than forty years ago. I was doing defense at Maguire Voorhis & Wells at the time and he was at Maher & Overchuck doing plaintiff's product liability.  He always impressed me as a very talented, honest, and highly capable trial lawyer.  He also had a great sense of humor and a zest for life.  Always fun to be around whether you were litigating with him or against him or grabbing a drink with him at the Bali Hai bar of the old Harley Hotel by lake Eola. I wish there were more John Overchucks in the world.

Deepest sympathies to the entire family and all his many friends.  One of the best trial attorneys I ever had the pleasure of watching perform his trade.  He truly taught be example as a consummate professional, gentleman, and legal scholar.  Godspeed, and rest in peace.

As preteen cousins, Johnny, Donald and I visited our Grandpa Sapp's farm during the summer or around Christmas. One particular Christmas, Johnny decided to decorate a small skinny pine tree for the family. With little money, but the best of intentions, he bought and presented Grandpa, Grandma, Aunt Vivian and beloved Cassie an assortment of inexpensive gifts. The presents consisted of hair pins, combs, needle and thread, and a snuff brush. Motivated only by his desire to make the family happy and bring a little Christmas joy to the farm, he carried out his plan with unselfish determination. It was a memorable Christmas on an otherwise somber holiday.

Life takes us in different directions. So, regrettably, we didn't stay in touch over the years. But true to form, I'm sure that Johnny continued to be an honorable, giving, and thoughtful person. Best wishes to his family and friends in their time of need.

I hadn't even graduated from law school when John Overchuck & Mike Maher gave me a clerking job at their firm, which was Maher, Overchuck & Langa at that time.  I learned very much from those two superlative lawyers, and John was the lawyer who convinced me to go into Personal Injury law.  John was so incredibly talented that if he hadn't become a lawyer, he would have made a fine Shakespearean actor. I was very blessed to have John as one of my mentors.


I knew John when he was practicing law in Orlando.  His sister Joan was in my grade at Leon  class of 71. I am very sad to hear of his passing. He was a longtime friend and was a lot of fun to be with.  I will cherish the memories of knowing him.  He was such a unique special person. My condolences to the family.

So sorry that you had to leave us so soon. I was looking forward to reconnecting with your family.  As a cousin, we visited in your home in Tallahassee. It was always a pleasure to see your Mom and Dad and visit with you,  and your brother and sister. Your Mom was truly a beautiful person. 
She made us feel at home and welcomed each time we came over.  You were obviously blessed with a wonderful, caring family who will sorely miss you. May they be  comforted in the coming days in knowing that you lived a life worthy of eternal peace. Blessings to All........

So sorry to learn of John's  (or Johnny, as I always knew him)  passing..........Although I attended Leon High School with him,  my fondest memories are when we were young (age 8 or 9) and lived on Collins Drive in Tallahassee, Florida.  Our neighborhood was filled with young children, The Overchucks lived across the street from us......as well as the Grubbs children.   One of Johnny's best friends, Sidney Griffin, lived down the street.  Other neighborhood children were  Sharon and Judy Henderson, Douglas Payne,  Errol Stafford.... Good memories fill my mind of us trading comic books, playing "kick the can" and volleyball.  
    
 We lost touch and I'm happy to say that I got to meet him a few years back at one of our Leon High School reunions and talk about his life and our neighborhood memories.

Johnny was a good friend in Leon High School to many classmates.    I never met anyone that didn't like and respect Johnny.       When the family is ready, please share any obit with his old friends and classmates in Tallahassee through the Tallahassee Democrat Newspaper.     We know he made his adult life in Orlando but we had him first.
